The 28-credit post-masters Dance Education Advanced Certificate Program at Hunter College prepares candidates to teach dance in the PreK-12 school setting. Students will obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for teaching dance by examining pedagogical theories applicable to dance instruction, conduct action research, explore strategies for differentiation, develop age and content appropriate dance curriculum, familiarize with dance standards and authentic assessment in dance, and develop a lifelong reflective teaching practice in dance. This certificate serves dance professionals in the field who have an MA or MFA in dance, but lack the requirements for teaching certification.

Become certified to teach in NYS public schools preK-12 dance programs (upon successful completion of New York State exams)

Courses are offered in the morning, afternoon, and evening to address the needs of candidates working in a variety of teaching settings

 

Gain pre-service classroom experience (fieldwork) in a New York City public school
